Peacock Pearls approx. 4-5mm 16" Str

Peacock is the name given to these irridescent dark grey freshwater pearls. Minerals in the water give them their color, which shimmers with purple, green, and blue highlights. True pearls are never round, and these are wider across the middle than from hole to hole. The bead size is uniform within each strand. An excellent value for the price. The holes in these pearls will accomodate cable wire up to .014 diameter, silk with attached needle up to size 4, or Fireline for the "floating bead" look.

Peacock pearls combine well with gemstones such as Amethyst, Fluorite and Kyanite. This color also works really well with our Indian sterling silver beads. Use a large one for a focal bead or scatter smaller beads for a nice accent. Swarovski crystal beads also pair nicely. In addition to the obvious choices of Jet, Crystal or Crystal AB, bring out the various colors within the pearl. Try some of these Swarovski crystal colors: Chrysolite, Erinite,Fuchsia, Indian Sapphire, Dark Sapphire, Lilac, Purple Velvet, Tanzanite, Violet or Violet Opal.

Because pearls are nature’s gems each pearl and each strand is slightly different. We offer near endless options in our stores, but for our online store we have selected those with the most uniformity that we can obtain in quantity. However, when a particular batch runs out, it usually can’t be exactly replaced, so please anticipate your needs and order enough to complete your project.

Traditionally pearls have been knotted between each bead to protect them from rubbing against each other and to insure that if the necklace breaks, valuable pearls are not lost. Knotting is an option of you like the classical look, but with today’s improved stringing materials and lower prices for pearls, it is not necessary. It is, however, best not to put sharp or abrasive beads next to your pearls and pearls should be protected from chemicals including soaps, lotions, perfumes, and hair products. If necessary rinse pearls in warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Read more about pearls in our Dictionary of Beads in the Reference section.

Strands are 15-16" long with approximately 104 beads.
