MAKE YOUR OWN ROSARY OR PRAYER BEAD STRAND (MD)

If you've ever wondered about making your own rosary or prayer beads—but were daunted by all those wire loops—this class is for you. You'll make a sturdy, beautiful, and personal rosary strung on virtually-nonbreakable SoftTouch beading wire. Give yourself plenty of time to shop, and try thinking "outside the box" as you select the beads for your rosary. You can use pearls or crystals, beautiful gemstones, or earthy and organic wood, bone, horn, seeds or nuts. Large beads can be a traditional round shape, or you can let your imagination roam—select tradebeads, lampwork, a beautiful focal set, resin beads, carved wood, silver or vermeil, pewter or brass. Think about using contemporary beads or recycled glass beads. The only constraints are that the small beads should be the same size and the large beads should be the same size.

Supplies:

CATHOLICS: 53 8mm "Hail Mary" beads (all the same), 6 10mm or larger "Our Father" beads (all the same), caps and ornamental beads as desired to decorate the Our Father beads (raid your bead stash for miscellaneous chips and small round beads), 1 tube coordinating 11/0 seed beads, 1 tube coordinating 8/0 seed beads, 6 coordinating crimp tubes, 6 coordinating crimp covers, 2 yards Soft Touch Medium, 1 crucifix or cross, 1 center medal with three holes.

ANGLICANS/EPISCOPALIANS: 28 8mm beads, 5 10 mm (or larger) "invitatory and cruciform"beads, caps and ornamental beads as desired for decorating the larger beads (raid your bead stash for miscellaneous chips and small round beads), 1 tube coordinating 11/0 seed beads, 1 tube coordinating 8/0 seed beads, 3 coordinating crimp tubes, 3 coordinating crimp covers, 2 yards Soft Touch Medium, 1 crucifix or cross. (If you happen to be an Episcopalian and didn't know there was such a thing, I'll bring along some suggested prayers.)

"EARTH ROSARY" OR NONDENOMINATIONAL ROSARY: 52 8mm "seasons" beads, 4 10mm or larger separating beads, caps and ornamental beads as desired for decorating the larger beads (raid your bead stash for miscellaneous chips and small round beads), 1 tube coordinating 11/0 seed beads, 1 tube coordinating 8/0 seed beads, 3 coordinating crimp tubes, 3 coordinating crimp covers, 2 yards Soft Touch Medium, 1 crucifix, cross, medallion, or amulet of your choice.(You should be able to suspend your medallion or amulet from a loop of SoftTouch wire.)
